What to Look For In A Web Site Host
The first and most important thing to keep in mind when choosing a web hosting provider is what type of website you want to create. Not all web hosts are created equal. If you want to create a large social networking site or an online store, you are going to need a host with different capabilities than if you are just making a site to share pictures.
At this point, the aspiring web developer must decide what to look for in a web host. This can be a bit confusing, but the following list of features should make this task far less daunting. Keep these in mind when searching for a web host:
Cost: Smaller sites have much different requirements than larger sites. In this case, a low cost shared web host will serve nicely. Make sure they have room to expand in the future, just in case.
Ease of use: The nice thing about shared hosting is that, since you are sharing the server with other users, most of the control panel issues are taken care of for you. This means that you are free to focus on making a great site rather than server maintenance issues.
Tools: Even simple sites need a certain set of basic features. Perhaps you want to add a forum to you site where users can exchange ideas. Perhaps you need a contact form so users can send you suggestions directly. Make sure to take these items into consideration before deciding on a host.
Access: You may get a great idea for a new fruit salad recipe while eating lunch in an Internet caf on vacation in France. Can you upload your files and access them from any computer, or do you have to be at home on your own computer to work on your site?
Support: Make sure your new hosting option offers some form of phone/email support. Even using a simple host and making a simple website can lead to problems every once in a while. Make sure your host is there to help you.
The perfect web site host for the simple web site is fairly easy to find once you know what to look for. Finding the perfect fit for your website is much more about your needs rather than what the host itself. Make sure you ask the right questions, find the price you are willing to pay, sign up and get to making that perfect site!

Hostgator Is Green, What Is All That About.
Most people have heard of Hostgator and with good reason because these guys are undoubtedly one of the largest web hosting companies in the world. At last count they had somewhere just over 2m domains under their control and are continuing to grow. It is all very impressive for a company that was started in just 2002.
Whilst this is all well and good from their customers there are more important things to consider. It is a budget hosting company with an excellent price structure. The most basic accounts start at $3.95 a month going up to 412.95 for a business account.
Each of the available plans including the lowest costing package offer unlimited packages meaning that it is possible to host as many domains as you like with unlimited bandwidth and disk space. The packages are also enabled for CGI PHP 5, ROR, MYSQL, SSH, SSL, IMPA, POP and Cpanel access
Now, all this stuff is great, but for me there are 2 things that make Hostgator really stand out.
Firstly server speed is key. Many people think that because you are on a shared server the speed will be slow where in fact the opposite is often true because most people using shared account have very little traffic. Host gator has good speed and a good support function as well.
You don’t have to sign a contract when you sign up, meaning you can cancel at any time and they offer a money back guarantee for up to 45 days. That really shows their confidence in their own service.
Secondly, they are are environmentally friendly company, meaning that they run all their servers from renewable energy credits. This is a big plus for me, as I am very concerned for the environment as well and it has been a passion of mine for some time.
It’s great for me to be able to use a good solid web hosting company that is also committed to the environment and to helping protect our planet. For these reasons, I feel happy to recommend Hostgator.
